Description:
It should be possible to disable galleries is category pages (possibly with a
keyword such as NOGALLERY) for categories that are used to mark copyright
images, as the resulting pages (see link) are not a fair use of the images.
Categories marked as NOGALLERY should link to the images inline instead,
listing them with the other pages in the category.

Yes, but not in edit-mode. If you do not have the option "Show preview on first
edit" hit "show preview" please. Do you see filenames or thumbnails/icons?

Works for me...try clearing your cache (CTRL-F5 if you're using IE, something similar
for FireFox which I forget right now)

That didn't work. But action=purge did.
