Adding in Flow board header or Flow topic summary should add it to category.
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Adding in Flow board header or Flow topic summary should add it to category.

 • done

Remaining Concern (separate task T94617: Decide how to handle categories in regular posts) is:

 • Category links are inactive in posts. Do we need (or have) a way to inform editors of this aspect, when they type or try-to-save a post that contains ?

[Old description...]

Category links such as are invisible in Flow posts. We could either

 • auto-correct them to :Category:Foo so that they are made visible;
 • Or warn the user (either: when they click "save", or when they type the closing "]]") that the category link will not be visible nor have any effect.
 • Or other?

I would make it non-binding (possibly take ideas from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Cameltrader/Advisor). Sometimes people will want to add a talk page to a category, by placing it inside of a message.

ought to work in the header to categorize a Flow board.

In a post it's less clear; if this puts the board in Category:Foo but the post is now the 42nd on the page, then you won't see it on the Flow board until you paginate in, so you won't know why the Flow board is in a category unless you can search the board for posts with Category:Foo. Meanwhile there's no good UI to show on a category page that "[Post ID rl7iby6wgksbpfno]" is in that category.

Engineers are starting to implement link tables for Flow, we'll see what comes of it.

Now that topics are separate pages in a Topic: namespace, put in the topic summary could/should make it appear in that category.

Some of this was implemented in T87793. I havn't looked to see what the differences are between this ticket and implementation.

I've updated the main description. The title of this bug changed sometime during 2014, hence the difference between title and ticket-description. (it was originally filed as "[Bug 60510] Flow: Categories added to Flow posts are invisible"). We should probably split this other/original aspect into a new task...

The deployment of Flow on 3 user talk pages on French Wikipedia during WIkimania raise this need: bots owners need sometimes to know on which pages their bot may have a problem to deliver messages, to adapt them.

Bots shouldn't use a page categorization to tell if a page is a Flow board. See Flow API documentation.

As stated in the description, this (still) works. It should have been closed back then.
