throttle exception for session at Small Museum Assoc. conf (2014-02-17)
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

Description:
Would it please be possible to lift the cap on account creations on en.wikipedia, for the period from Monday 2013-02-17 1-5 p.m. USA eastern standard time.

I am running a Wikipedia and GLAM session at the Small Museuem Association conference in Ocean city, Maryland, USA. We are told to expect around 50 people for the session; I don't know how many are likely to be trying to create accounts. http://www.smallmuseum.org/conference.html

Sorry for the late request, I wasn't able to get information about the IP address in advance, and what I do have is somewhat sketchy: They weren't able to give me the exact IP address for the conference center, but it should be in the following range:

IP address for Clarion Resort Fontainebleau Hotel, Ocean City, MD
The machine I was able to check had the following address, and listed others:
10.62.88.100 (also .22, .29, .26)
The Subnet mask was 255.255.252.0

If you can manage to get a cap reset with that information, thank you! The key period is 1-3 p.m., but we may still have people working between 3-5.

Raise account creation throttle for a SMA session

10.*.*.* is an internal IP range. To learn the IP visible to the outside world, use http://www.whatismyip.com/

(In reply to Max Semenik from comment #2)

10.*.*.* is an internal IP range.

See [[RFC1918]] for more on that. Short version is we can't use that information to do what you asked.

To learn the IP visible to the outside
world, use http://www.whatismyip.com/

Better to use: https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Special:MyPage (see which user page it redirects you to) This should be done simultaneously on at least 3 separate devices. (or use 2 if that's all you can manage. to see if they all are connecting from the same or from separate IPs)

How many editors (i.e. known non-vandals that already have accounts) will be staffing this event?

At this late hour, maybe is better to focus on getting participants to create accounts ahead of time (before the event) and granting the event staff accountcreator bits. (we can start with [[user:Mary Mark Ockerbloom]])

Request is not actionable because IP information is missing.

General note: If you think the request has gone unnoticed and the event is about to start, go to the IRC channel #wikimedia-tech on Freenode IRC and ask for help. (See http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/IRC for general info on using IRC.)

I see that the event has concluded. For future reference, please try to file throttle exemption bugs at least a week in advance.
