Move "mwdumper" component from "Utilities" to "Datasets" product?
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

I would like to move Bugzilla's "mwdumper" component from Bugzilla's "Tools" to "Datasets" product.
It looks like a good fit there, as its description says:
"Java-based tool for converting and importing MediaWiki XML database dumps".
Plus I'd slowly like to kill Bugzilla's "Tools" product, as it's confusing now that "Tools" mostly refers to stuff on Tool Labs. See bug 53986 for related discussion.

Brion / Ariel: Would that be okay?

Brion: Do you still want to remain default assignee for "mwdumper" in Bugzilla, or should that rather be "Nobody <wikibugs-l at lists.wikimedia.org>" nowadays? If the latter, do you still want to be in default CC?

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/describecomponents.cgi?product=Tools
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/describecomponents.cgi?product=Datasets

After doing so, the Bugzilla link in https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:MWDumper#Reporting_bugs will need updating. It is currently incorrect anyway.

No objection in 6 months and all the relevant people are in cc, can we just do it please? Takes few minutes and saves who knows how many person-hours of people needlessly scrolling and wandering about confused when searching or filing a bug.

I don't care, I'm just pretty sure I wouldn't maintain it as I'm not a java coder. (And this is exactly why I didn't comment earlier, not much to say.)

Wikimedia has migrated from Bugzilla to Phabricator. Learn more about it here: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Phabricator/versus_Bugzilla - This task does not make sense anymore in the concept of Phabricator, hence closing as declined.
