to add qualifiers for a new statement, one has to first click save on the statement after adding a value. Then, click edit again and *then* it is possible to add qualifiers.

It should be possible in one step without clicking save.

Because the option to add qualifiers is not present, I instinctively click the "add" button that I see. Then I fill out qualifiers, and then realize "oops!" I am adding qualifiers in the references section of the statement!

Even after all my experience with Wikidata, I continue to make this mistake when editing. I only hope I caught all my mistakes and fixed them.
