Make crosswiki bits and pieces truly global (tracking)
Open, MediumPublicFeature

Description

Tracking bug of (mostly) tracking bugs for

etc.

PROBLEM STATEMENT: Make the cross-wiki-relevant stuff – i.e. the stuff which users manually carry by hand (e.g. copy and paste) between many wikis – truly global – i.e. living in one or few centres to the benefit of all the other wiki villages –.

Past success cases:

  • Wikimedia Commons (for multimedia files)
  • Wikimedia Meta-Wiki (for user rights, interwikis, blocks, blacklists plus some other things depending on opinions)

Recently born:

  • Wikidata (for data)

Version: 1.23.0
Severity: enhancement

Can it be clearly defined when "truly global" has been reached, or is this an "ongoing" activity that can never be called fixed, like bug 1?

(In reply to Andre Klapper from comment #1)

Can it be clearly defined

Yes and I think it already was in comment 0, "living in one or few centres to the benefit of all the other wiki villages".

T22153 is the same as T31272, but I need to add it directly here because we have no tree view in phabricator.

Steinsplitter moved this task from Uploading to Backlog on the Commons board.

I think it's time to test Wikidata based meta general infoboxes. I just came from WikiIndaba 2018 (African conference) where we discussed the importance of having that tool to develop African languages Wikis.
We can start by two infoboxes :
Meta infobox for human settlements
Meta infobox for humans

keep in mind that small Wikis don't have time/resources to create infoboxes for every country/profession.. they tend to have something general so that they can focus on editing content.

We can offer the possibility to modify it: show/hide references, show/hide non-translated words, ...

I would recommend using the Wikidata village pump to inquire about what's already possible. This is just a tracking task.

Should this task perhaps be gradually transitioned to the Crosswiki workboard and eventually closed?
