I selected a word and tapped link tool. I selected a article to link to, then changed my mind and tapped into the search field, deleted it and started typing a new word. But no search terms appeared. Then I tried to delete this search term and it won't delete, and I also can't type in anything else.

This appears to be a bug in OOJS-UI
It seems selecting an item does something weird with the focus of the input on an iPad.
I am not sure , if I have understood this bug from the description given but is it same as:https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=66696 ?

Yes part of the original issue where no search results appear is still reproducible.
Steps to reproduce:
At this point, no results appear for the new search term
There is another issue of link inspector crashing which happens right after it.
Continue to the following steps to reproduce this part:
No character appears in the search field as I type and cannot close link inspector, cannot go back to editor.
