In the user preference of Wikipedia & other WMF Wikis one can set the thumbnail sizes to 120, 150, 180, 200, 220, 250 and 300 px. Default is currently 220 px and will be changed to 300 px within the next days. The maximum possible size will then be the default and it's no longer possible to increase the size.
The screen-sizes, screen-resolutions and bandwidths have increased in the past substantially and will likely continue to increase.
I suggest to add 350, 400, 480 and 500px and remove the options 150 & 180 px witch are nearly not used.
