I just tested the feature
https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-ambassadors/2014-October/000991.html
with VisualEditor and it seems to be using a low resolution image instead of MathMl (while editing). When I save the page,

the formula disappears and it only reappear after I reload the page.

Verified the fix in test2

resolution of an edited/inserted formula in VE is the same as after saving the page

<meta name="generator" content="MediaWiki 1.25wmf8"> is present

Verified in production - used the sample from https://pt.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?diff=40380507: \frac{\sqrt{(x+1)}}{y^2}
