VisualEditor: Text in Japanese disappears
Closed, ResolvedPublic40 Estimated Story Points

Description

First reported by miya at ja.wp:
write something in Japanese; press Enter; the whole line disappears. This also happens when adding a picture - in the Caption field.
This does not seem to be browser or OS-specific.
miya says that adding a "single-byte character" or a number at the beginning of the line, the line doesn't disappear - I don't seem able to confirm this (my tests are in Safari/X Yosemite).
I'm able to reproduce the general issue at mediawiki.org (using the laptop input system for Katakana; hope I'm doing this right).

bzimport added a project: VisualEditor.
bzimport set Reference to bz72619.

Confirmed in betalabs with hirogana, katakana(and, of course, not for romaji), and kanji.

Sometime it takes two hit of Enter to delete the entered text in such languages- but the text gets deleted. For English text, 'Enter' behaves normally - a cursor goes to the new line.

Thanks for changing its priority!

For your information, I tried the above case with Google Input method and Google chrome on Mac OS X Yosemite, got the same result.

Let me know if you need other test cases.

Why did you change the priority?
I recognize this bug is blocked against using by Japanese.
If you have a reason, let me know.

As far as I can tell, this issue and other Japanese text entry issues are all now fixed. Sorry it took so long to confirm!

Sorry, this was done in a mass action for everything we were not working on that month.
