Google thinks Neuron article on enwiki is hacked
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Discussed on IRC at [1] and enwiki Village Pimp at [2].

Google thinks [[Neuron]] is hacked:

Neuron - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuron
This site may be hacked.

Probably needs someone with access to Google Webmaster Tools to go in and see why.

Cc Stu because he allegedly has access to Google Webmaster tools and Krenair would use such access.

According to the Google Webmaster Tools:

Currently, we haven't detected any security issues with your site's content. If you want to learn more about security issues and how they could affect your site, review our resources for hacked sites.

I'm guessing whatever it was has either been fixed, or was a false positive... Reedy (talk) 13:03, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

But Google is still showing the message. Perhaps we have to wait for their caches to expire.

The same problem has occurred with the page for the group Anonymous.

It looks like the solution last time may have been to edit the page, and request the page cache in the Google Webmaster Tools.

There was already a minor edit since the problem was first identified, but I've now done a non-minor edit in case that helps.

To see if it helps I've also submitted the Anonymous page for recrawl.

(to be fair it looks like someone else did a partial submission of the page about 12 hours ago. I've submitted a slightly more complete recrawl page though in theory it shouldn't matter (it does a full crawl of anything linking to it too).

That would be me, and it denied my request for reindexing, due to (I believe) the snippet not having been changed.

TTO claimed this task.

Neither "Neuron" nor "Anonymous (group)" is showing this message in Google search results any more.

To my knowledge, we never got to the bottom of the issue here; I suppose it is just a matter of fire-fighting whenever this happens again in the future.
