Description

A much-needed link, especially on large active wikis with editors who have been
around for years, is a pair of "nearby contributions" links for advanced
wiki-users. The most important link is "contribs this user made around this
time" -- a jump to the appropriate part of that user's contrib history.

A second similar link would be "contribs in this article's history near this
person's edit" -- again, a jump into the history list around that revision;
something the diff-view of a pair of revisions should also link to.
Update:* revisionjumper gadget provides this.

See alsoe #1870 - both of these, and many related feature requests, really fall under 'historical navigation'. Similar requests would include navigating specialpages that are only kept around for a fixed period of time, such as newpages, and even snapshots of logs that include later-deleted pages or accounts (some of these limited to admins).

These are most useful interfaces especially for generating various statistics : the # of pages generated and deleted a day, for instance; or the average lifetime of a newly created page. And the body of users who wants and could improve on these ideas are different from readers and editors; so all in all this could be run as an extension on a stats-server or toolserver.

Changing summary to reflect the first request (one item per report, please), as "NearBy" has a different connotation nowadays (mobile location / GPS).
