Namespace search options should be present all the time
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Author: brianna.laugher

Description:
Hello,

Radio buttons to specify namespaces to search in only appear when the search
term is not blank.

Please add them to appear when the search term is blank, and also on plain
[[Special:Search]].

Thanks!

Works for me in mediawiki 1.10.

Works fine in MediaWiki 1.10, sure, but Wikimedia uses Lucene Search...

A workaround could be to use namespace prefixes, e.g. if you want to search the image namespace use:
image:query, or if you want to search everything use all:query.

On other hand, I agree that the search user interface should be reworked to be more friendly.

Commons now uses MWSearch which does show the namespace options. WONTFIX the LuceneSearch extension as it is about to be deprecated.
